That's not lens distortion: this fishbowl really is shaped like a vertically compressed tomato or a pin cushion. This particular form factor excels at maximizing gas exchange, although the base is as narrow as the mouth, so a substantial gravel depth was required for the lush planting.
The light green vine with spear-shaped leaves is Potamogeton lucens, which is rare is in the hobby. I don't actually know the species name of the sword with the purple leaves (which are closer to yellow on the underside). I believe it's some sort of Cryptocoryne.

Tribes of the Raindrop
Переглядів 7472 місяці тому
This fishbowl shaped like a raindrop is so crammed with plants that one can hardly see the central driftwood, which spans its entire height and diameter. The foreground is somewhat barren, principally because I didn't bother to dry-start the baby tears or glossostigma. Capacity is roughly 8 L. Out of the Fishbowl and into the Pond

All of the fish from "Dancing with Rainbows" along with a few odessa barbs from another bowl are moving to their retirement home. In hindsight, perhaps I did more harm by releasing pollution on the taxi ride to the site than good by releasing the fish there. (I could have simply walked them back to the shop where I had originally purchased them.) At least, I hope you learned something for all t...
20 Months to Fishbowl
Переглядів 2272 роки тому
Join me on a 20-month odyssey from start to fishbowl! I made this 5-hour documentary to exhibit the trials and tribulations which often occur behind the scenes, in addition to some unprecedented disasters. Remember that you can always fast forward when it gets tedious. Spoiler alert: the final product is "Dancing with Rainbows" which you can find at the link below. ua-cam.com/video/aGQe1mSvfp0/...
Baby Golden Tortoise Rescue
Переглядів 342 роки тому
I thought this encounter might make for a fun video for kids interested in reptiles. I happened upon an abandoned baby golden tortoise sitting in the middle of a road in Florida. I was out for a walk and heading in the direction of a stream, so I scooped him up and relocated him there after apparently encountering his grumpy mother along the way.
40 Hz Frenetic Fishbowl
Переглядів 2672 роки тому
What's that buzzing noise?! (If it pops every once in a while or the image looks blurry, that's due to your slow internet connection.) It's a sine wave that oscillates at 40 cycles per second, which closely matches the sinusoidal component of greatest amplitude in gamma brainwaves. (Technically, it's a sine wave of that description which was then compressed from raw samples into a 128 Kbps MP3,...

Over 20 months in the making, this fishbowl contains a wide variety of fish and plants existing in symbiosis with a minimum of external intervention. There are no inputs but for the occasional dose of fertilizer, which at this point in its evolution should probably cease, as the plants can likely obtain their needs from the fish, and the fertilizer only serves to exacerbate the blackbeard algae...

Hi Russell, I am glad to experience new videos of your creations. As a long time aquarist, I appreciate your simple yet mesmerizing globes of nature.
Could this happen with the grow light for the fishtank? Or just with the sun?
I highly doubt it would happen with a grow light, but never say never.
Glad you’re making videos again. Very inspirational!
Well thank you, and feel free to comment back here if you post your own! Sorry to say that the next video is a long ways off. At least, I always notify my subscribers (via email from UA-cam) when I post.
❤🧡💛💚💙💜
I try to be fair and balanced by not reacting to simple expressions of love or hate for my work, electing only to respond to directed questions and comments. But just knowing that you've been waiting patiently for years and I made your day, made mine! Sorry to say but it's gonna be a while til the next one.
@@dangerousfishbowlchannel that is OK, I downloaded some of you old videos and re-watch them from time to time!
Pretty cool and looks nice but seems overstocked
Thanks! I certainly understand how you could get that impression. But the plants grow like weeds. It has never had water quality problems to any significant degree. At most, I need to skim lipids off the surface once in a while, which come from the dried bloodworms. The other issue is that they tend to crowd the front clearing at mealtime, which exaggerates the apparent size of the population.
Cool design and nice light. 🌿🌿
Lovely but too small for those fish. Would work well for smaller fish. I like all the tanks you setup and it is so nice to see another video from you.
Nice to see that you're still here after so many years! I do appreciate my exceptionally patient subscribers such as yourself, who help to compensate for UA-cam's tunnelvision AI. To your point, see my reply below to dylanbabcock1627. I don't entirely disagree but there was only so much space on my nightstand and I'm a sucker for cardinals. And by the way you might like to see the entire history of my compositions in full resolution, for free, which can be found at the link the description.
The fishbowl is indeed quite dangerous.
How so?
Its beautiful, but I think you're gonna get hate for the size of the tank.
Thanks, and I've anticipated as much. I think people tend to underestimate just how distracted these species tend to get. They usually can't make it halfway across the bowl without spotting something of interest and changing directions. More to the point, they aren't exhibiting any significant signs of stress. But in any event, they were released into a much larger aquarium a while back.
Too small of a space for them IMO. 😪
I get where you're coming from, and I don't mind the criticism, but please see my reply to dylanbabcock1627.
I was glad to see the new video from you. Unfortunately poor sound quality plus background music are the bad idea!
Thanks, I think I know what you mean. I made the mistake of recording the narration with earbuds. I will revert to a corded mic next time. I suppose I could also delay the music until I'm done with the presentation. Will consider.
@@dangerousfishbowlchannel _I suppose I could also delay the music until I'm done with the presentation._ This is the best solution! Or human speech or music. Together - it's terribly tiring!
Very nice .😊
Nice stuff
I wanted to make a giant fish bowl but was afraid of it catching on fire and I just had to look it up to confirm. and it’s true. I’ve heard of crystal balls catching houses on fire
You're welcome. If you're the one person I've saved from putting a fishbowl in a position where it can magnify sunlight and cause a fire, then making this video was all worth it. And sorry for the very late reply, as I somehow missed your comment.
Thanks for confirming
So the End of the channel ?
after pumice filters the water it's not harmful to fish?
For such a preachy, know it all style you omitted to add some mechanical filtration. Just one tray would help keep the pumice clean and prevent the pores from blocking. Even more important if you're hoping to run it for a year without servicing.
How is this possible
So my ph at the tap is running a bit high. My fish can live between 6.5-7.5. My ph is reading 8.5 at the tap. How can I do a safe water change without Killing my fish?
This is art
You know you could’ve just dumped those stupid noodles while holding on to the rest of the filter parts, just as you did with the bio-balls. Removing them would’ve gone faster.
Just select "MTP" type of connection via USB on GoPro settings
What about water changes ? What nitrAte level do you have here ?
I did water changes whenever the algae built up too much on the glass or the plants required trimming. At most, that would be once in 3 weeks or so. I never measured nitrate, but it would have to have been absolutely minimal, given the plant load.
I have made my own homemade filtration bucket Dead easy ! Media , lods of pumice and sponge . The filtration work on a solar panel system since the past 3 year . Water so clean

Very nice, always look forward to your uploads
Thank you for sharing the process by how you take an intangible idea to a tangible creation.
great video!! thanks for sharing, the current seems very strong
Lol..shitty logic
Thanks! this worked great for me, audio has a slight skip but video is smooth during transition
This is amazing! i love Aquascapes too but cant get the desired plants here
Beautiful!
Beautiful! Your fish look so happy and lively!
Thank you. They did look quite content in their bowl, but they've all since moved to larger residence. Stay tuned...
I hope you dont post this on any fb groups..unfortunately they will attempt to tear you a new one.. not me,this is gorgeous.
I don't have Facebook. Even so, why do you suppose they would be so angry?
@@dangerousfishbowlchannel anti bowl hobbyists.. especially with the amount of fish you have. They always try to run their nonsense on me about bowls are bad for fish blah blah blah..and I direct them to the study done by bio orb, and they dont want to hear it. Nowadays, science isnt too popular.
Ah yes, _that_ crowd. They probably burn enough fossil fuel in a year to kill several polar bears, and they're all experts in fish neurology. I mentioned a bit about this in the intro for "Dancing with Rainbows", but I know I'm not gonna convince many of them. I have a lot more to say but I don't want to give away my upcoming videos. That said, people are free to criticize my work based on whatever argument they might wish to proffer. I don't censor insults, just patently irrelevant comments.
I absolutely love 💕 this bowl auascape ! Please keep doing more updates on it ... I believe it's going to mature beautifly in time!!!! Thanks for the video👍❤️
My pleasure! I'm planning to publish more videos of these fish later this year. Meanwhile, you might want to put this up on the TV or computer monitor next time you have guests. Enjoy!
Beautiful. What are the half yellow, half silver fish called?
Boeseman’s Rainbow Fish :)
SO CUTE
Absolutely beautiful ❤️ aqua scape! Thanks for posting......
if you dont have any water movement or surface agitation, at night the plants produce co2..dont the fish start gasping for air and the bacteria start dieing off? One of my smaller bowls has no filter,I only have about 30 baby ramshorn snails and if I do not add an air stone at night, they all go to the surface, the water gets really cloudy with a bacterial bloom.
Fortunately not. As I explained in the video, the bottom of the water column is teeming with fish in the morning, which means that the surface area is sufficient for the oxygenation of this volume of water at 26 C. The bigger risk is cascading fatalities that could occur if one of the larger fish were to die. This is one reason that I'm keen to relocate the Bosemans.
@@dangerousfishbowlchannel what symbiosis do you see in the bowl ?
Love this 💕
Hey there, quick question. None of your aquariums have cracked, have they? I heard that many of these large fish bowls are meant to be decorative pieces, and that once filled with water, they tend to crack at the 2-3 year mark. Hoep that isn't the case :(
Good question. This isn't just a leak issue; it's a safety issue for obvious reasons. But, yes, in fact this very bowl cracked long ago on the bottom. Fortunately, it was small enough that I was able to patch it with a thick layer of caulk on both sides. The crack was due to my own careless handling and had nothing to do with the strength of the glass. I have no reason to believe that the glass weakens in any material way over the life of the bowl, absent these sorts of mishaps. Pro tip: don't wear metal belt buckles, watches, or jewelry near your bowl, as they can easily crack the glass upon impact.
Amaizing!!
also why don't they also put the native smooth-coat otters in the zoo but instead choose to keep the small-claw otters?
there's one otter with only 1 leg :( i wonder if it can still swim?
This vídeo has some time but Im setting a planted fishbowl and i have a betta ,you added 1ml of urine per liter to fertelize it xD didnt harm your fishes ?
Nah, it's just not that much nitrogen. It's also better to do that before adding any fish, so you can gauge the effect on your plants. Definitely back off if the fish seem stressed.
You have really inspired me to start this hobby! I was wondering if I could buy this cylinder from you? What is your minimum asking price?
Hi Brooke. I believe that there is one other, almost identical cylinder somewhere in the world. This one is a decades-old piece of liquid chromatography equipment. The other was produced in a manufacturing test run that never culminated in further production. (That's secondhand information from a manufacturer that I inquired with several years ago.) Given the rarity, honestly, we're talking thousands of dollars. (At the time, I was quoted around $4K for a oneoff custom job, due mainly to the expense of crafting the production mold.) I don't expect to find any buyers at that level, but that's OK. Thanks for asking anyway.
Bro, good work. Absolutely beautiful. Love how you took advantage of the height in this one.
